Kramer’s book store, Washington D.C

1517 Conn. Ave. Washington DC 20036 (across from Dupunt Circle Metro, Q St. Exit)

Think of a Barnes and Nobles books store; now think about the opposite.  You should have a good idea of what Kramer’s is like.  Cramped, full of books about politics, history, current affairs.. Bar and restaurant in the back.. Now you can feed your mind, soul and stomach all in the same place.  Whoever is purchasing books for this book store, knows his job.  The collection of books on the tables, changes constantly, and is a good collection.  Space museum? Lincoln’s monument? Washington’s top spot is Kramer’s book store no doubt in my mind.

If there were only bookstores like this one in America.. Bang in the center of Amsterdam, three floors of a great book store (all in English) covering every topic from design, to architecture, to travel, to film, Japanese Manga (in English) and of course the odd fiction books.  The design of the store is pretty cool; a spiral of a book shelf climbs from floor one to floor three.  A kind of a “Guggenheim” experience, without the modern art hanging around.  So a very cool place to shop for books.  One down side.. prices are in Euro’s!
