Books??

Book?

Books? People ask me and I can see the concerned look on their face.. when on earth do you find the time to read books? Question in place, as last year alone I took over 60 international flights on business trips from China to (well the world is round) back to China.

Time Management

Like everything else in life, I respond, it’s about managing your time. I could recommend to you a few good time management books I recently read, but if you can’t find the time to read, what’s the point?

Where do I start, tips for those who want to but don’t know how

1. Kill the remote, it’s your enemy.

2. Stop reading news papers; they are a waste of time. If something major will happen, you will know about it anyway.

3. Stop reading glossy magazines; they are a waste of time and money.

4. Read about speed reading, it’s like going out for a run with Timberland boots or Nike shoes. You want the Nike’s.

5. Buy books. Have one in your bag, one next to your bed, one in the toilet and one on the kitchen table. It is perfectly okay to read five at a time.

6. Build your own library. It’s a collection. A collection of your knowledge.

Books??

Yes, books. Because the most important skill we have as humans, is our ability to learn and educate ourselves. It’s easy, and in developed nations quite common for people to whip out 20-40-60K and “buy” education. How educated they are at the end of the process is questionable. Injecting three to four years of very expensive knowledge into a (typically) young and inexperienced (in life) brain has its limitations. It is a good business for universities, there is no doubt about that.

Educate yourself

So educating yourself is a lifelong quest. I wish myself, and you, that on your death bad there will be a book, half read, on a topic you never read before. And that around you there will be a room full of books covering every topic possible. George Washington is said to have read 1,000 books, and that’s way before you could buy books on the net or cramp 500 books in a Kindle in your pocket.

Ever tried running a marathon?

Just in case you said no, let me correct you, you are running one now. It is called life. It is long, it requires effort and each runner has his own finish line. Knowledge wise, as health wise, as wealth wise, you should have a considerable impact on where each finish line crosses. You can choose to make the effort and educate yourself to improve your life and knowledge, or you can watch another TV show. It’s up to you.

For those who chose to read

This web site should be fun. Each book I read, I review and post. It’s not so much about what the book is about (there is some of that too) it’s more about what I think of the book or after reading the book. If you read the same book, or would like to recommend others, or comment, feel free, I would love to get in touch with those who think alike, and more interesting, those who think the opposite.
